EP's Roberta Metsola announces sanctioning of Romanian MEP Diana Sosoaca for disrupting July 18 meeting
The president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, announced on Tuesday morning the suspension of MEP SOS Romania Diana Sosoaca from the activities of the European Parliament plenary for seven days, with the withholding of the allowance for seven days, after she showed inappropriate behaviour in the debate that preceded the vote on the nomination of Ursula von der Leyen from July 18.
In accordance with rules 10 and 183 of the regulation of procedure and after taking note of the observations of the concerned members, I decided to impose a penalty against Mrs. Diana Iovanovici - Sosoaca for disrupting the meeting of July 18, 2024, showing inappropriate behaviour during the debate ( ...).This penalty involves the withholding of the daily allowance for a period of seven days and a temporary suspension from participating in the activities of the EP plenary for a period of 7 days starting from today, October 8, 2024, without prejudice to her right to vote in the plenum and in accordance with the standards of conduct, on Tuesday said Roberta Metsola at the beginning of the EP's activities, gathered in plenary session in Strasbourg.
The EP member in question was informed in this regard, she filed an internal appeal to the competent office against this decision based on procedural rule no. 184. The office, in yesterday evening's meeting, confirmed the penalty without prejudice to the right to external appeal that remains open to the member in question. The sanction is therefore considered final, Roberta Metsola added.
