EU suspends financing for Moldova until new government is set up

EU decided to suspend financing Moldova until a new government, able to carry out negotiations with IMF, is set up, says Pirkka Tapiola, the head of EU Mission in Chisinau.

“Our decision is to suspend now the budget support. EU wants to see, as soon as possible, a ruling coalition in Chisinau. The new government will have to contact IMF immediately to request a new financing accord. Now we are taking into account two aspects: the bank crisis and the country’s macro-financial stability”, Pirkka Tapiola said, according to Jurnal de Chisinau.

Anatol Arapu, Moldova’s finance minister declared that for 2015 EU provided financing of 40.7 million euros for Moldova.

Chiril Gaburici, the premier of Moldova announced his resignation on June 12, on the background of an investigation on the alleged falsification of a study diploma.
