Eurobarometer survey: 65% of Romanians would vote to stay in the EU
Almost half of Romanians believe being EU member is a good thing and, if a referendum on this use would be organized, 65% would vote to stay in the European Union, a Eurobarometer survey released on Wednesday by the European Parliament.
The Eurobarometer informs that 62% of Europeans, the highest level in the past 25 years, and 49% of Romanians, believe belonging to the EU is a good thing, slightly up against the similar period last year, down by 10% against April this year, digi24.ro reports.
Generally, at European level, the support for the EU has increased after the UK referendum in 2016, revealing the Europeans’ concern regarding the impact of the Brexit.
If a referendum is organized, 66% of Europeans (65% of Romanians) would vote for their country to remain in the EU, 17% of Europeans (15% of Romanians) would vote to leave the EU, whereas 17% of Europeans (20% of Romanians) say they don’t know how they would vote.
The survey also reads that 49% of Europeans (51% of Romanians) are satisfied by the democracy in the European Union.
32% of Europeans (43% of Romanians) have a positive view on the European Parliament), 21% (17% in Romania) have a negative view, whereas 43% (36% in Romania) have a neutral view.
48% of Europeans (63% of Romanians) would like the European Parliament to play a more important part.
The fieldwork of this survey was carried out between 8 and 26 September 2018 among 27 474 Europeans aged 16 or more, interviewed face-to-face by Kantar Public in all 28 Member States.
