Eurostat: Romania, the second in the EU for the increase in construction works in May

Romania is second in the EU for the increase in construction works in May 2013 by comparison to the previous month, as the volume of works recorded a decline of 0.2% in the EU and 0.3% in the euro zone, the data presented on Wednesday by Eurostat show. According to the data, in May the volume of construction works increased in four member states, dropped in nine member states and was the same in the UK. The most significant drops were recorded in Bulgaria ( minus 4.2%) Poland and Slovenia ( both with minus 2.8%) and Germany ( minus 2.6%) and increase were recorded in Spain (4.4%) Romania (3.1%) Sweden(1.7%) and the Netherlands (1.1%).

Annually, in May 2013 as compared to May 2012 the volume of construction works dropped by 5.1% in the euro zone and in the EU.

Thus, the volume of construction works dropped in 11 member states and increased only in three member states: Hungary (11.1%) Spain (8.2%) and Sweden (7.9%). The most significant drops were recorded in Poland (minus 28.6%) the Czech Republic (minus 15.5%), Portugal (minus 12.9%) and Slovakia ( minus 12.1%). Romania recoreded a drop of 8.9% of the construction works in May 2013 after a drop of 11.9% in April.
