Eurostat: The increase of industrial production prices in Romania, above the EU average, in January

In January 2021, industrial producer prices rose by 1.4% in both the euro area and the EU, compared with December 2020, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In December 2020, prices increased by 0.9% in both the euro area and the EU. In January 2021, compared with January 2020, industrial producer prices remained stable in the euro area and increased by 0.2% in the EU.

 

Monthly comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State

 

Industrial producer prices in the euro area in January 2021, compared with December 2020, increased by 3.5% in the energy sector, by 1.2% for intermediate goods, by 0.4% for capital goods and for durable consumer goods and by 0.1% for non-durable consumer goods.

 

Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.8%. In the EU, industrial producer prices increased by 3.6% in the energy sector, by 1.2% for intermediate goods, by 0.4% for capital goods and for durable consumer goods and by 0.1% for non-durable consumer goods.

 

Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.7%. The industrial producer prices increased in all Member States for which data are available. The highest increases were recorded in Ireland (+10.0%), Spain (+3.4%) and Denmark (+3.3%).

 

Annual comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State

 

Industrial producer prices in the euro area in January 2021, compared with January 2020, increased by 1.2% for durable consumer goods, by 0.9% for intermediate goods and by 0.8% for capital goods, while prices fell by 0.5% for non-durable consumer goods and by 1.6% in the energy sector. Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.7%.

 

In the EU, industrial producer prices increased by 1.4% for durable consumer goods, by 1.1% for intermediate goods and by 1.0% for capital goods, while prices fell by 0.5% for non-durable consumer goods and by 1.4% in the energy sector. Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.8%.

Among Member States, for which data are available, the highest increases in industrial producer prices were observed in Ireland (+19.6%), Estonia (+5.1%) and Denmark (+2.9%), while the largest decreases were recorded in Lithuania (-4.8%), Cyprus (-4.6%) and Greece (-3.8%).
