Foreign Affairs Minister starts today a visit to Hungary
Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Titus Corlatean on Monday, October 1, pays an official visit to Hungary, at the invitation of his counterpart Janos Martonyi. According to a press release the Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE), the head of Romanian diplomacy will have consultations with Hungary's Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi and will be received by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and by Budapest Parliament President Laszlo Kover.
On the sidelines of the visit, the Minister Titus Corlatean will also have a meeting with representatives of the Romanian community of Hungary.
The visit is part of the specific bilateral dialogue between Romania and Hungary and is carried out in the context of this year's marking the tenth anniversary of the signing of the Strategic Partnership Declaration (November 29, 2002) and 16 years from the signing and coming into force of the Treaty of understanding, cooperation and good neighborly relations between the two countries, the Foreign Ministry points out.
The talks will focus on the modalities to boost the strategic partnership between the two countries, substantiating the strengthening of the sectoral and cross-border cooperation, as well as the intensification of trade exchanges. A special attention in the discussions with the Hungarian officials will be paid to the issue of rights protection for the persons belonging to national minorities, in the context in which the Romanian side wants to make sure that the necessary conditions to improve the situation of the Romanian minority in Hungary will be provided, the press release shows.
The discussion agenda also includes topical issues on the European agenda, a special importance being granted to the coordination of the Romanian-Hungarian positions on common interest topics, such as energy security, negotiations on the Multiannual Financial Framework EU 2014 - 2020, the EU enlargement and the Eastern Neighborhood.
The two Ministers will have an exchange of views on the developments in North Africa and the Middle East, focusing on the situation in Syria, MAE informs.
