ForMin Corlatean participates in EUSDR Annual Forum, in Vienna

Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Titus Corlatean participates in Vienna, together with his Austrian counterpart Sebastian Kurz, in the opening of the third edition of the Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR), the most important annual event of the Strategy, the Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) informs.

The event is taking place at the City Hall of Vienna, being organised by the European Commission, the Government of Austria and Vienna City Hall. Together with the representatives of the European institutions (the Commission, Parliament and the Committee of Regions), the central, regional and local authorities of the 14 states participating in the Strategy, the Forum works count on the presence of members of the academic and research community and members of the business environment and associative structures, according to a press release MAE.

Moreover, the event has a series of renowned guests, among whom Regional Policy Commissioner Johannes Hahn, Vienna Mayor and Governor Michael Haupl, Austrian Federal Minister for Education Gabriele Heinisch-Hosek, as well as Minister for European and International Affairs of Baden Wurttemberg Peter Friedrich, as host of the future edition of the EUSDR Annual Forum.

Carried out under the theme 'We grow together - together we grow - Empowered for a prosperous and inclusive Danube Region,' the Forum' focus is on the revision of the Danube Strategy governance system and the competitiveness increase in the region, social inclusion being seen as a pre-requisite for ensuring prosperity.

The event format maintains the tradition Romania established, through the EUSDR Forum of Bucharest of 2013 on the organisation of the informal meeting of Danube-riparian foreign ministers on the Forum's sidelines. In this context, in 2014 the foreign ministers' meeting were organised in the afternoon of Thursday, June 26, after the official opening session.

The participation of the Romanian Foreign Minister in the Annual Forum and in the ministerial meeting organised in the Forum's sidelines ensures Romania's representation according to the co-initiator statute, together with Austria, of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region and reiterates the privileged position that Romania and Austria have in this context, the MAE release also mentions.
