ForMin: Romania wants EU to reach association accords with Republic of Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine
Romania is in favour that the European Union should reach association accords with the Republic of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine, ForMin Titus Corlatean said on sideline of the Snow Meeting informal event, happening in Trakai, Lithuania, on Jan 10-11, informs Romanian Foreign Ministry (MAE) release sent on Friday.
ForMin Corlatean delivered speeches during the panels on topics such as Europe and Eurasia, Future Summit on Eastern Partnership, taking place in Vilnius.
'Referring to the current geopolitical developments, Romania's Foreign Minister pleaded in favour of the Republic of Moldova and other European partners should be offered clear EU accession prospects. In the context, he stressed that Romania pronounces in favor of the Republic of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine and the European Union should come to association agreements,' the MAE release says.
Likewise, ForMin Corlatean emphasized that a strategic approach of the Eastern Partnership and support measures are needed, and he evoked the Romanian project on the conclusion of the Iasi-Ungheni gas inter-connector, in the respect.
According to the above mentioned source, the talks outlined the conclusion that the Republic of Moldova can be seen as a successful story of the Eastern Partnership, which justifies the expectations for a positive result at the Summit due in Vilnius, this autumn.
The informal meeting in Trakai was an opportunity to outline topics to be approached during the Eastern Partnership Summit due to be organized during Lithuania's future EU Council chairmanship. On sidelines of this informal meeting, ForMin Titus Corlatean held meetings with his Lithuanian counterpart Linas Linkevièius, Swedish counterpart Carl Bildt, Slovakia's Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajèák, Latvia's ForMin Edgars Rinkçviès and Georgian counterpart Maia Panjikidze.
