Geoana discussed with Victoria Nuland about the change of the majority in Romania and the events in Ukraine

Senator Mircea Geoana, high representative of the prime-minister for the promotion of strategic economic projects and public diplomacy, had on Friday a phone conversation with Victoria Nuland, the assistant of the State Secretary of the US for Europe and EurAsia, the discussed themes being the new political situation in Romania and the events in Ukraine, as well as the Republic of Moldova.

 

I have recently presented the political evolution in Romania and sent the fact that the change of the majority will ensure more coherence to the actions of the government. The main priorities of the government are left unchanged in the foreign economic policy and security of Romania. In the discussion, the role of good governance was also mentioned, of transparency and of a stable business environment and predictable for the support of the economic relaunch and Romania’s attractivity for investments and development, under conditions of political and macroeconomic stability’ Mircea Geoana stated, according to a press conference.

 

According to him, the discussion of the two officials included the situation in Ukraine and in the Krimea peninsula.“Territorial integrity, political and financial stability of Ukraine represent priorities of first order for the US and the EU. As a neighbour of Ukraine, Romania will support actively all the initiatives meant to ensure the regional stability and the European road of Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia. They expressed ways through which the international community, including the states in the region can ensure economic and political support for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova in the critical moment’ Geoana stated with regards to the discussion he had on this issue with the US official.

 

At the same time, Geoana discussed with Nuland about the Republic of Moldova. “The visit of premier Ponta in Kishinev and premier Leanca in Washington of next week, were also presented, as elements of the interest of the US and Romania to actively support the Republic of Moldova, in the context of the Ukrainian crisis and the signing by the Republic of Moldova of the Agremeent of Association with theb EU of August 2014” the Romanian official stated after the discussion with Victoria Nuland.
