George Ciamba appointed as Minister-delegate for European Affairs
President Klaus Iohannis signed on Tuesday the decree appointing George Ciamba as Minister-delegate for European Affairs, informs a press release issued by the Presidential Administration.
George Ciamba is a career diplomat and has been working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) of Romania since December 1990, according to the MAE website.
Since November 2012 he has been Secretary of State for European Affairs. Previously, George Ciamba was Ambassador of Romania to the Hellenic Republic.
Between July 2003 and September 2005, he was Secretary of State for Multilateral Affairs and then, Global Affairs, in the MAE. In this capacity, he coordinated the files associated with the EU (Intergovernmental Conference), NATO, the Council of Europe, the UN and other international organizations.

George Ciamba, a secretary of state in the Foreign Ministry was appointed at the head of the Ministry of European Affairs by the Permanent National Bureau of PSD. He has been in the Foreign Ministry since 1990 and has occupied several positions.
According to the data supplied by the Foreign Ministry website, George Ciamba has been working in this ministry since December 1990. Since November 2012, he has been secretary of state. Before taking over the secretary of state portfolio for European Affairs, George Ciamba was Romania’s ambassador to Greece (2005-2012). In January 2017 he was again appointed secretary of state in the Foreign Ministry.
Over July 2003-January 2005 he was secretary if state for Many-sided and then Global Affairs in the Foreign Ministry. Between 1999 and 2003, Ciamba was Romania’s ambassador in Turkey, as well as Permanent Representative with the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization between 2001 and 2003.
In 1995 he was secretary of the work group on historic reconciliation between Romania and Hungary, which led to signing the basic Treaty with Hungary in 1996.
Over 1991-1995 he held various positions in the Foreign Ministry, such as area officer for the US, for the Atomic Energy International Agency.
George Ciamba graduated from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in 1989 and holds a study diploma in international relations, obtained in 1993 at Bucharest University. He published articles in this field, especially about the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the US and Romania’s Euro-Atlantic integration.
In 1999 he was awarded the “Ambassador of the Year” title, granted by the daily Nine O Clock and in the year 2000 he was decorated with the National Order Merit.
