Gov't will ask Parliament to investigate ANRE in connection with the recent rises in electricity prices

Premier Mihai Tudose announced on Wednesday that the government will ask Parliament to investigate the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) in connection with the situation of the energy system, specifically the recent rises in electricity prices.

"I think it's time we, the government, publicly asked Parliament to investigate ANRE. They are not reporting to us, but I think Parliament can ask the ANRE head why he has put off for two or three months what he should have done," Tudose said, hinting for instance at the postponement under various reasons of the organization of tenders for electricity suppliers. "We might also sent an official note to Parliament," Mihai Tudose said at the beginning of the government meeting.

Minister of Energy Toma Petcu said that electricity prices are slightly lower from the previous week on the "day-ahead market, on the secondary exchange," but that ANRE has still not proceeded to a rigorous and transparent analysis of the behavior on the market, on the day-ahead market."
