High Court maintains decision to withdraw Victor Ponta's PhD title

The High Court of Cassation and Justice maintains the decision to withdraw the PhD title in Victor Ponta's case and the court decision is final. The minister of education, Monica Anisie, announced she would put in application the magistrates' decision and said the sentence was “a clear message for those who tried to copy.”

In 2017, Bucharest Court of Appeal pronounced the sentence to withdraw the PhD title but Victor Ponta contested the magistrates' decision.

Anisie said she would put in application the sentence of the High Court.

In June 2012, Nature Magazine wrote that Victor Ponta copied his PhD thesis of 2003. “The International Criminal Court” thesis was written under Adrian Nastase's guidance.

In 2014, Victor Ponta announced he renounced the PhD title but he was told it was not possible.

In 2016, National Council for Attestation of University Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates(CNATDCU) pronounced the decision of plagiarism but the former premier contested the decision.
