Horatiu Anghelescu: Local communities should be community engines in Romania

The Ministry of Communications will elaborate a guide classifying the concepts of “smart towns”and local communities should be organizers of smart communities in Romania and of integrating companies and financiers, said secretary of state Horatiu Anghelescu at the forum “Policies and regulations, evolutions, challenges and opportunities in implementing smart technologies.”

In his turn, Radu Puchiu, secretary of state at the Premier’s Chancellery, said there is a large amount of unexploited public data and they should be opened and used in smart town applications as they do in other countries.

Sector 3 mayor, Robert Negoita, president of the Association of Municipalities in Romania spoke about challenges and achievements in the field, among which the low level of public service quality in rural areas and the need for investments and the urbanization of these areas or education in the digital field and progress made in schools.

The forum “Policies and regulations, evolutions, challenges and opportunities in implementing smart technologies”, organized by The Diplomat, included two panels: “Smart towns - European context, strategies and recommendations”and “Smart networks - practical applications”.
