Ia Day celebrated on June 24 – law promulgated by the president


President Klaus Iohannis signed on Tuesday, the decree promulgating the Law setting up June 24 as Ia Day, the Romanian traditional women's blouse 'ia' .


The law was adopted on May 31 by the Chamber of Deputies, as decision making forum.


On Ia Day, cultural, social and artistic activities can be organized and materials about the commemoration and protection of the sleeve embroidery folk blouse called “ie”can be spread by general information means. Central and local public administration authorities can grant logistic support and can allocate funds from their own budgets for the organization and carrying out of events in good conditions. Education, religious units, community centers, cultural institutions and Romania's diplomatic offices are invited to participate in actions promoting the “ie”, according to the law.


Romania and the Republic of Moldova's submitted to UNESCO, in 2021, the "Top Sleeve Embroidery Folk Blouse"; the file is intended to "promote the culture and traditions" of the two countries.


Ia Day is celebrated annually since 2013 on June 24, along with the feast of the Romanian fairies Sanziene and St. John the Baptist's Midsummer Feast.
