Icon and cross makers' fair at Peasant Museum this week-end

The icon and cross makers' fair, which intends to rediscover icon beauties, following the technique quality and craftsmanship, observing the purpose of the religious object, avoiding kitsch expressions and serial industrial productions for commercial purposes, will be open Friday through Sunday at the Romanian Peasant National Museum.

According to a press release sent on Tuesday, the structure of the fair celebrates saints,  angels from heavenly armies, crosses, religious miniatures, mosaics, objects and works included in the sacred art field.

After a three-year experience, the Museum invites children and adults to discover how icons used to be painted, saints and angels painted on glass or wood, to meet icon painters and cross makers and learn more about canons and traditions.

“We accompany icon makers with plant tea, cakes, jam, honey and home cookies. We take out old albums, postcards, peasant writings, craftsman's books, exhibit catalogs to offer people who are interested, organizers informed.

The Fair is organized by the Museum Education Section coordinated by Lila Passima.
