We have the threatened independence of the justice, we have populist approaches, we have all kinds of complicated situations, and if we are talking about the architecture of the our political system, we have something which is called difficult cohabitation between the president and the governmental majority’ he stated.
Asked if he considered that European democracy is in danger, Klaus Iohannis said’ No, I don’t hink that our democracy is threatened, but yer, our democracy is under pressure’..
‘In Romania, we have a domestic situation which is very complicated and quite often people come and ask me’ Well, the democracy is threatened in Romania, it is in danger, is the society in danger?’ and I say’No,but we have a very lively democracy and I think that this is what we have in Europe as well’ Iohannis said.
He also said that elections come and many politicians fear them.’ As the populists will get many votes, the Euro-skeptics are growing as number, but this should not worry us. This should encourage us, the politicians who believe in Europe, in integration in Europe, in a strong Europe, it should make us stronger and make us find ways to convince the Europeans that we have a good future, and we the politicians, we know how to build this future. Surely, democracy is not threatened but we have to be stronger and better’ Klaus Iohannis said.

‘The situation is very complicated in Romania, I don’t want to paint it in better colours than in reality. We have the independence of justice threatened, we have populist approaches, we have all kinds of complicated situations and, if we speak about the architecture of our political system, we have what we call difficult cohabitation between the president and the governmental majority’ (…) in fact very complicated and it is stressful for the citizens, for the political system and I think that very soon we should have an answer from our citizens and we will have it as we have European elections and in parallel we have organized a referedum’ he stated.
