Ion Sandu (ANM): South-eastern Romania, to face drought in July and August, according to current estimations


Romania's south-eastern area will be under drought in July and August, according to the forecast on the humidity reserve in the agricultural soil National Weather Administration (ANM) director general Ion Sandu said in a specialist forum.

'As concerns the forecast valid through the coming six months, in the chapter agricultural year 2013, this year we can see we have higher temperatures than in the interval in question last year. Referring to precipitations, in 2011-2012, the quantities were a lot lower than this year. In fact, in March there will be higher precipitations than the climatological norms and the humidity reserve on March 18 in most parts of Romania shows that we have an optimal supply compared with last year,' Sandu said.

'Apele Romane' National Administration (ANAR) and ANM in Bucharest on Friday organise the forum devoted to World Water Day and World Weather Day.

The event, conducted in collaboration with 'Gheorghe Ionescu-Sisesti' Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences (ASAS) and the Group for Ecologic Initiative and Sustainable Development (GIEDD) will have as guests, among others: Rovana Plumb - Environment and Climatic Changes Minister, Lucia Ana Varga - Minister Delegate for Water, Forestry and Fisheries, Liviu Dragnea - Regional Development and Public Administration Minister and Ion Iliescu - GIEDD President.
