MediaSind requires the withdrawal of the political support for the chairman-general manager of the Romanian Television
The Romanian Trade Union of the Journalists MediaSind together with its branch from the Romanian Society of Television – MediaSind requires the withdrawal of the political support for the chairman-general manager Doina Gradea ‘ before she ruins everything’ , the biggest press institution in the country, the Romanian Television.
‘We publicly send this appeal as our requests, of the employees in TVR, of the main professional organizations and trade unions, both in the country and from abroad hit the blockage imposed by the PSD members in the parliament. They, although the knew the serious situation in the Romanian Television chose to keep her at any price. Not even the commission for parliamentary investigation made up to check on the way public money was spent by TVR could end its activity because of the same reasons. The protests of the professionals in TVR got more numerous over the last days as regards the unbearable treatment by the manager. Both the representative of the employees in the board and the main trade union organizations and professional organizations required her resignation. Unfortunately, the political support she had on the part of the party you lead has blocked any initiative of detoxifying the activity and normalize the work relations based on performance in the TVR’ say the representatives of MediaSind in a public appeal sent to the interim chairman of PSD Viorica Dancila.
The trade unionists consider that on the basis of the report of the ethics and arbitration commission in the STVR, several professional organizations in the media required the parliament the dismissal of the chairman-general manager Doina Gradea showing ‘ incompatibilities and contradictions between the behaviour, way of thinking and action of PDG and the TVR1 manager, on the one hand, and the legal concerns, regulations and procedures which are in use in the public televion service, on the other hand’.
In this context, SRJ MediaSind notified European Broadcasting Union (EBU) about the abusive behaviour of the chairman-general manager of SRTV, requiring at the same time, the support of the international organizations to which the Federatia Cultura and Mass Media FAIR –Media Sind is affiliated.
‘In a climate so vulnerable where, before the elections of the Presidency of Romania when fake news and manipulation are considered real risks even by the European Union it is necessary to eliminate the arbitrary in the TVR management without leaving the public television without a functional management. As a consequence, we require as chairman of PSD to withdraw the political support for Doina Gradea so that your MPs can vote her dismissal for reasons of non-adequate activity as the leader of the public television’ the public appeal addressed to Viorica Dancila says.
