MI6 chief received at the Cotroceni Palace

President Traian Basescu on Thursday, at the Cotroceni Palace, received chief of the Secret Intelligence Service of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland (M16) John Sawers. One of the subjects discussed by the two officials was also the cooperation between the Romanian and British security institutions in combating terrorism.

'President Traian Basescu and Mr John Sawers discussed the cooperation between the Romanian and British security institutions in combating terrorism, information terrorism and other forms of illegal activities directed against the citizens and the member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Mr John Sawers thanked for the excellent cooperation between the security structures of Romania and M16. Mr John Sawers also said that the partnership with the intelligence community of Romania was one of the best Great Britain has ever had and that our country has lately won the renown of being an important NATO ally,' reads a release sent by the Presidential Administration.

Basescu also met the M16 chief in 2011. At that time President Traian Basescu and manager of the Romanian Intelligence Service George Maior met John Sawers in London.
