National bank increases key interest up to 6.25pct per year

 The Board of Directors of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) decided on Wednesday to increase the monetary policy interest rate to 6.25% per year, from 5.50% per year,as of October 6, 2022, informs the central bank.

Also, the BNR increased the interest rate for the credit facility (Lombard) to 7.25% per annum, from 6.50% per annum, and increased the interest rate for the deposit facility to 5.25%, from 4 .50% per year.

At the same time, in Wednesday's meeting, BNR decided to maintain firm control over the liquidity on the money market and to maintain the current levels of the mandatory minimum reserve rates for the lei and foreign currency liabilities of credit institutions.

At the beginning of this year, the key interest rate was 2% per year.
