Number of building permits for residential buildings down 23.5% in first nine months

 

The number of building permits for residential buildings issued in Romania has dropped in the first nine months, by 23, 5% against the similar period of last year, show the data published, on Tuesday by the National Institute for Statistics (INS).

Thus, between 1st January and 30th September 2023, 26394 building permits for residential buildings were issued, dropping by 23.5% against the similar period of 2022.Decreases were registered in all development regions: Bucure?ti-Ilfov (-1.554 permits), Sud-Muntenia (-1.439), Nord-Vest (-1.331), Vest (-977), Nord-Est (-906), Sud-Est (-755), Sud-Vest Oltenia (-657) and Centru (-487).


In September 2023, 3083 building permits for residential buildings were issued (-1.0% compared to August 2023), with a total usable area of 626,659 sq.m (-14.3%). 71.7% of all building permits for residential buildings are for rural areas.

 

In September 2023, there is a drop in the number of building permits issued for residential buildings as compared to the previous month (- 32 permits). As for territories, this drop is reflected in the following development regions: Nord-Est (-64 permits), Nord-Vest (-40), Centru (-22), Sud-Est (-19) and Sud-Muntenia (-4). Growth was registered in the following development regions: Vest (+67 permits), Sud-Vest Oltenia (+46) and Bucure?ti-Ilfov (+4).

 

According to INS, in September 2023, 557 permits for non-residential buildings were issued (+3% against August 2023), as total usable area – 249,987 sqm (+10.1%).

As compared to the previous month, in September 2023 there was an increase of the usable surface for the building permits issued for the non-residential buildings (+23,005 sq). As territory, this growth is reflected in the following development regions: Vest (+22.306 sqm), Sud Muntenia (+16.503), Nord-Vest (+8.693), Centru (+6.416), Bucure?ti-Ilfov (+6.270) and Sud-Vest Oltenia (+4.256). Drops were registered in the development regions Nord-Est (-31.218 sqm) and Sud-Est (-10.221).

According to the NSI, in September 2023 there will be a decrease in both the number of building permits issued for residential buildings (-20.5%) and the total usable floor area (-44.7%) compared to September 2022.

 

In territorial profile, this decrease in the number of building permits issued for residential buildings (-797 permits) is reflected in all development regions: South-Muntenia (-307 permits), North-West (-150), North-East (-114), Centre (-80), South-West Oltenia (-53), West (-45), South-East (-33) and Bucharest-Ilfov (-15).

 

Compared to September 2022, September 2023 had a drop both in the number of building permits issued for non-residential buildings (-13.2%) and the total usable surface (-30.1%).

In territorial profile, this drop in the usable surface in building permits issued for non-residential buildings (-107,512 sqm) is reflected in the development regions Nord-Est (-139.062 sqm) and Bucuresti – Ilfov (-14,410). Growth was registered in the following development regions: Vest (+26,403 sqm), Centru (+8.464), Sud-Est (+5.510), Nord-Vest (+3.079), Sud-Muntenia (+2.436) and Sud-Vest Oltenia (+68).
