Over 1,000 CFR Calatori employees to be made redundant since March

About 1,050 employees of the National Railway Transport Company (SNTF) Calatori (Passengers) will be laid off since March, the respective people going to be served the notices starting with Wednesday, February 22, Gheorghe Fratica, president of the Locomotion-Commercial National Rail Federation.

'In line with the social protection measures stipulated in the collective work contract, each employee will receive, after redundancy, six national average salaries,' said Gheorghe Fratica.

He stressed that the redundant people will face big economic difficulties in the period ahead, because they are generally single bread winners for their families, and in most cases there are families with two-three children.

According to CFR Calatori, as a result of the structural reorganization measures applied at the current regional centers and travel agencies, the number of employees will be reduced by 1,050 at CFR Calatori and with 93 at Voiaj CFR and CFR Gevaro companies.

Restructuring the company is not only aimed at the personnel sector, but also at operations. Thus, CFR Calatori plans to close 23 rail segments, which recorded the highest passenger km cost. Also, CFR Calatori proposes withdrawal from circulation, in the first quarter, of 250 wagons, over 40 years old, they going to be valued, a process following which CFR could cash some 1.75 million euros.
Other 150 wagons, which will be identified this year, are to be sold through Bucharest Commodities Exchange, according to CFR Calatori proposal. The State railway company is on the list of public companies with arrears, monitored according to the agreement with the International Monetary Fund.
