PM Dancila: Not afraid of censure motion

Chairwoman and Prime Minister Viorica Dancila announced on Monday evening that next week she would ask Parliament for the vote of confidence for the Government. Dancila told a press conference at the end of PSD's National Executive Committee (CExN) meeting that she was not afraid of a negative vote in the Legislature.

"We talked about the current situation of the Government and we decided to go before Parliament next week. I underscored countless times that we are not afraid. We'll go to Romania's Parliament, we'll discuss with the political parties so that we get the confidence vote," Dancila said.

She mentioned they hadn't yet decided if the Government was going to choose the restructuring or the reshuffle option, but in case restructuring was chosen, the new government formula would have 19 ministries plus the prime minister office.

Chairperson of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and Prime Minister Viorica Dancila said on Monday that she is not afraid of a censure motion in Parliament.

"No, I'm not afraid of a censure motion. If I'm not afraid to go in Parliament for restructuring, if I wasn't afraid to convene a government meeting and find solutions to that, why would I be afraid of a censure motion?!" said Viorica Dancila, after the meeting of the National Executive Committee of the PSD.

She added that she had found solutions to avoid the blockage with regard to government meetings.
"You saw that I found solutions, I found ways to get out of this blockage," said Dancila.

She added that the PSD will continue to support Teodor Melescanu for the position of Senate chairman. "We continue our support for Mr. Teodor Melescanu and I firmly believe he will be elected tomorrow as the chairman of the Senate," Dancila stated, after the meeting of the National Executive Committee (CEx) of the PSD.

She said that the PSD, when it promises something, it keeps its promise. "I spoke to Mr. Melescanu about his candidacy and we will go all the way with this candidacy. (...) There was a vote and when we make a decision, I believe that in the party there needs to be solidarity and that we all must go with that decision. I trust that all PSD senators will vote according to the CEx decision," Dancila added.

Social-Democrat Deputy Valeriu Steriu is the new spokesman of the party, on Monday announced this political party's leader, PM Viorica Dancila.

"We discussed about designating a new spokesperson of the party and Valeriu Steriu, a Deputy in Romania's Parliament, was unanimously elected," Viorica Dancila specified after the meeting of the PSD's National Executive Committee. Previously, it was the PSD secretary general Mihai Fifor holding the spokesperson position.
