PM Ponta wants cooperation between ministers and European commissioners in order to speed up implementation of Brussels agreements

Premier Victor Ponta on Wednesday, at the beginning of the Government meeting, asked the ministers to cooperate as closely as possible with the relevant European commissioners in order to speed up the implementation of the agreements with Brussels and in order to create positions as clear as possible on the structural and cohesion funds.

'I think things have come back to normal and the European Commission [EC] regards Romania's Government as the natural partner of discussions. But this means that every one of you, when attending the councils you are supposed to attend and meeting the relevant commissioners, which has already occurred lately, must speed up the way to fulfil the obligations devolving upon us, to implement the agreements we have and be as well prepared as possible for the next decisions that must be made in the EU,' said Victor Ponta.

He reiterated the fact that the Government on Wednesday would approve the setting up of a special group, which will substantiate Romania's position on the EU multiannual budget for 2014-20.

The Head of Government asked the ministers to treat 'in utmost earnestness' the negotiations with other countries for the cohesion funds.

'I am going to ask each and every one of you to talk with the relevant commissioners, with the managing directors, with all people managing the direct relation with Romania in order to show that we accept what was wrong in 2010-11, they are financial corrections, but it is utterly incorrect that, in 2012 and afterwards in 2013-14, the Romanians should pay for the serious mistakes made by some people,' Ponta told the ministers.
