PNL's Ciuca: Possibility of Romania handing over Patriot system to Ukraine, topic that should not be politicized
Regarding the possibility of Romania handing over a Patriot defense system to Ukraine, National Liberal Party (PNL) chairman, Senate president Nicolae Ciuca said on Monday that this topic should not be politicized, noting that the decision will be made at the highest level, after analyzing the responsible structures in the field and within the Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT).
Asked if it would be appropriate for our country to donate such a system to Ukraine, Nicolae Ciuca answered: "Here, someone's personal opinion does not matter, not even mine, it is such a complex issue that we must have an analysis on the table as it can be well developed, covering as much as possible all factors and all consequences".
Prime minister Marcel Ciolacu declared on Sunday evening, on the Antena3 private television broadcaster that the minister of Defense, Angel Tilvar, has great reservations about Romania giving a Patriot defense system to Ukraine, noting that he did not discuss this issue with president Klaus Iohannis and that the decision will be made in the CSAT.
On May 7, president Klaus Iohannis stated, after being received at the White House by his American counterpart, Joe Biden, that Romania will find a solution regarding the transfer of a Patriot air defense system to Ukraine.
