Ponta: I discussed with Tony Blair the creation of an entity to be in charge of priority projects

Prime Minister Victor Ponta stated that the single topic discussed at the meeting with the former British head of the Executive, Tony Blair, was related to the creation of an entity to take charge of the development of such projects the government considers as priorities, following a pattern that existed in the UK during Tony Blair's term in office [it is about the Prime Minister's Delivery Unit, as it was called - editor's note].

'We only discussed one matter, namely the setting up of a new governmental entity to be in charge of such projects that the government considers as priorities, following a pattern used in the UK during Tony Blair's term in office. It's the same topic that I had discussed with the Chairman of the World Bank, when it came to Bucharest, and he said that he will support this project [...] From where I stand, and you all know this very well, results in using the European funds are below expectations. Mr. Teodorovici and the Minister of Budget, Mr. Voinea, they both confirmed today that, ever since January 1 and until now, Romanian received two billion euros from the EU. Which is more than we received from structural funds in the entire six-year interval since when we became members of the European Union. Although it is true that I have more priorities to consider right now, such as the energy, the public acquisitions system, the creation of a more flexible market for the youth. But these are all things that are related to the activity of a implementation unit', said Victor Ponta, after a reception at the German Embassy in Bucharest.

The Prime Minister also added that the World Bank supported the creation of a unit to be in charge of the priority investments at the Ministry of Finance and also of another unit to deliver the key projects of the government.
