Ponta: Iohannis, a big win for Gov't; PNL proposes valuable people
Prime Minister Victor Ponta said Saturday in Sochi that in his opinion Klaus Iohannis of the National Liberal Party (PNL) is a big win for the Government and that PNL's nominations for governmental offices are valuable people.
'I have seen the proposals coming from the fellow Liberals. They are valuable people, and first among them is Mr. Iohannis, whom I want in the Cabinet and who I believe will bring added value to the Government. (...) There is an excellent relation between me and Mr. Iohannis. We have known each other for some time and I believe this would be a big win for the Government,' Ponta told Romania's national public broadcaster TVR.
He added that the technical decisions behind the nominations will be discussed by the leadership of the ruling Social Liberal Union (USL) in Bucharest.
'Other technical decisions, such as how to proceed now will be jointly taken in the country, calmly, and thinking about what is best for the main task of the Government of continuing its programme on a rising trend for Romania,' Ponta concluded.
PNL national leader Crin Antonescu on Friday reported that PNL's Klaus Iohannis, Eugen Nicolaescu, Cristian Busoi and Teodor Atanasiu had been approved by the party's leadership to take over the interior, finance, health and economy portfolios, respectively.
'Following the resignation of our colleagues Daniel Chitoiu, Radu Stroe, Eugen Nicolaescu and Andrei Gerea, the National Standing Bureau considered the proposals put forth and made the following PNL nominations by vote: Klaus Iohannis for the Interior Ministry and the office of deputy prime minister, Eugen Nicolaescu for the Finance Ministry, Teodor Atanasiu for the Economy Ministry and Cristian Busoi for the Health Ministry,' said Antonescu.
