Ponta:to have permanent NATO military presence in Romania, a strategic project
Opening a permanent NATO military base on Romania's territory represents 'a strategic project' to serve as topic at the Summit of the North Atlantic Alliance to be carried out in Wales, Prime Minister Victor Ponta maintained on Monday.
'It is one of Romania's fundamental objectives on occasion of the NATO Summit of Wales and it is a point of view that all the state institutions agreed upon, namely Romania's desire of having a permanent NATO military presence on Romania's territory. This thing is important because, if this decision is made, and I hope it is, its implementing will be done next year, in two years' time. This year, Mr Basescu, whose term in office will end soon, is the one going to the NATO Summit, so I wanted to show very clearly that the Romanian Government and the relevant authorities will continue to support this strategic project for Romania next year, too,' Prime Minister Victor Ponta said at the Senate.
