Ponta will go to Sochi for the festivity on the occasion of the official opening of the Olympic Winter Games
Premier Victor Ponta will be present on Friday in Sochi where he will assist in the festivity for the opening of the Olympic Winter Games and will take part in the dinner offered on the occasion by the Russian president Vladimir Putin.
The opening ceremony of the 22nd edition of the Winter Olympic Games will take place on Friday at 6 p.m. on the Olympic Stadium Fisht in Sochi.
Approximately 70 heads of state in the whole world are expected to be present at the opening ceremony of the Winter Games, announced the minister for sports in Russia, Vitali Mutko, rsport.ru announces.
At the previous edition, Vancouver2010 there were present only 12 heads of state. Mutko announced that other heads of state chose not to be present at the ceremony. “Yes, it is possible, some will not come, but each head of state has his plans, his vision. But in any case, the Olympic Games are about sports people, we have to concentrate on them” Mutko said.
The American president Barack Obama and the British prime minister David Cameron refused the invitation while the French president Francois Hollande announced he will not come since December. The German president Joachim Gauck mentioned the breach of human rights in Russia for his absence at the ceremony.
Among the leaders who confirmed their participation is the king of Norway, Harald Vth, premier Erna Solberg and the Ukrainian president Viktor Ianukovich.
The opening ceremony of the Winter Games in Sochi will take place on Friday and the competitions are programmed between 7 and 23 February.
