President Traian Basescu invited at EPP Congress in March

President Traian Basescu is invited at the European People’s Party to be held in Dublin in March, for the election of the candidate for the president of the European Commission.Chaired by the Irish premier Enda Kenny and the EPP president Joseph Daul, the Congress will debate the EPP election program and will elect the candidate running for president of the European Commission.

 

According to a press release of EPP, 2000 participants from 39 states, including 12 heads of state and government from Europe were invited to participate in the EPP Congress in Ireland.The German chancellor Angela Merkel, the Spanish premier Mariano Rajoy, the president of Romania Traian Basescu, the Hungarian premier Viktor Orban, the Polish premier Donald Tusk, the premier of Sweden, Fredrik Reinfeldt, the premier of Latvia Laimdota Straujuma, the Greek premier Antonis Samaras, the Finnish premier Jyrki Katainen, the Portuguese premier Pedro Passos Coelho and the president of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades are expected at the event.

 

The president of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barosso and the president of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy will also participate in the Congress.

 

The selection process for the candidacy for the presidency of the European Commission starts on Thursday. To be nominated, candidates must have the support of their own parties, as well as that of two parties from EU countries, other than the candidate’s country of origin.

 

The deadline for presenting candidacies is 5 March. On March 6, at the EPP Congress candidacies will be validated, the final vote being cast on March 7 when the election campaign is launched.
