President Zelenski thanks Romania for offering a Patriot air defense system

Ukrainian president Volodimir Zelenski declared on Thursday that Romania's decision to offer his country a Patriot air defense system would consolidate Ukraine's air defense shield, as well as European security, Reuters informs.

This crucial contribution will consolidate our air shield and will help us better protect our people and critical infrastructure from the Russian air terror,” the head of the Ukrainian states reacted on platform X, when the Cuntry Supreme Defense Council (CSAT) decided on Thursday that Romania would donate Ukraine's Armed Forces a Patriot defense system.

CSAT members invoked “the significant deterioration of the security situation in Ukraine as a result of Russia's constant and massive attacks on civilians and civillian infrastructure and the regional consequences of this situation, on Romania's security included, decided, in close coordination with the Allies, to donate a Patriot system to Ukraine,” a press release of the Presidential Administration reads.

The donation of the air defense system by Romania “is made on condition of further negotiations with the Allies, especially with the American strategic partner, with a view to obtaining a similar or equivalent system answering the need to ensure the protection of the national air space, of modernizing the Romanian Army and ensure interoperability with the NATO system. So the identification of a temporary solution must be found to cover the operational vulnerability thus created,” the press release mentions.
