Presidential adviser Cristian Diaconescu pays an official visit to the US
The coordinating presidential adviser Cristian Diaconescu pays an official visit to the US at the invitation of the National Security Council (NSC) and the State Department of the US.The head of the presidential Chancellerie stated for Mediafax that on the agenda there are ‘ consultations with advisers of president Barack Obama and vicepresident Joe Biden, with high figures in the American Administration on issues connected to the level of implementation of the Strategic Partnership for 21 th century – agreed between president Traian Basescu and Barack Obama, the eastern neighbourhood with NATO, the Eastern Balkans, cooperation political-military in the Black Sea region, the situation in the Middle East, North and South Korea.’
At the same time, according to Cristian Diaconescu there will be discussions and a series of issues of ‘ direct interest in the plan of Romanian-American strategic cooperation, such as military perspective and security in Afghanistan, the level of implementation of the defence anti-missile shield, the control of conventional weapons, the accession of Romania in the programme ‘Visa Waiver’. ‘I will have meetings at the State Department with subsecretary of state Rose Gottenmoeller, on domains of weapon control and international security and with Tara Sonenhine, the subsecretary of state on diplomacy problems and foreign affairs’ Cristian Diaconescu said for Mediafax, presidential adviser and former foreign affairs minister.
Diaconescu will also meet the leaders of organisations and NGOs in the domains of security and international relations from Washington, with the leadership of the Institute for Public Diplomacy and Global Communication at the University George Washington, with professors of the South Caroline University. ‘The agenda includes a series of debates on issues such as ‘Regional security in South-east Europe’ and ‘Investment perspectives in Europe’ at George Marshall Foundation, the Bertlessmann foundation as well as with the representatives and professors at the National University for Defence of the US.Not last, there are meetings confirmed with the representatives of the Business Council Romanian-American and with the board of the Association of Students and Professional Youth in the Washington area’ Cristian Diaconescu said for Mediafax.
The visit of the president’ s adviser takes place between 27 May and 1 June
