PSD votes the list of new Ministers: Tudorel Toader- proposed as Justice Minister, Mihai Tudose proposed for Economy Ministry

Less than two months after being sworn into office, the government led by Sorin Grindeanu could go through the first major changes in its structure, following a decision taken by the Social Democratic Party (PSD).

In a special party meeting held on Wednesday, the social democrats voted for bringing new ministers on board. The move was confirmed by PM Grindeanu.

Mihai Tudose will become the new minister of economy, replacing Alexandru Petrescu, who will become the minister of business environment, trade and entrepreneurship. Tudose has been minister of economy, commerce and tourism between December 2014 – December 2015 in the former government led by Victor Ponta.

Rovana Plumb will become the new delegate minister for European Funds, replacing Mihaela Virginia Toader. Plumb was the minister of labor between March 2014 and November 2015 in Ponta’s government.

The new minister of justice will be Tudorel Toader, a former constitutional judge. Toader is set to replace Ana Birchall, who was named interim minister of justice, following the resignation of Florin Iordache.

"All nominations were approved unanimously by Social Democrat Party (PSD) members," Grindeanu said in a televised statement.

This is the first reshuffle in the PSD-ALDE coalition government that took office in January following December 11 general election. PSD and ALDE control among themselves 250 of 465 seats in parliament.

The planned changes come on the back of ongoing protests against the government that erupted on January 31. Several hundreds of people continue to rally in front of the government building, although the Parliament has canceled an emergency government ordinance that would have brought controversial changes to the Criminal Code.
