Romania counts 10 mil women on 1 January 2017, namely 51.1pct of total population

Women represented 51.1 percent of Romania's total resident population on 1 January 2017, their number being a little over 10 million, a press release of the National Institute of Statistics (INS) sent on Thursday reveals.

Out of the 19.644 million people who had a regular residence in Romania on 12 January 2017 for at least 12 months, almost 10.041 million were women, accounting for 51.1 percent of the total resident population. Of these, 5.504 million lived in urban areas, accounting for 52.3 percent of the total urban population. In the rural area, the share of the female population stood at 49.8 percent.
