Romania exported more than 37,000 tonnes of mineral water this year

Romania's exports of natural mineral water and artificially carbonated water to the European community market and third markets totalled 37,303 tonnes in the first four months of the year, up 5 percent growth compared with the same interval last year, when the country exported 35,543.4 tonnes of mineral water, according to data remitted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR).

Revenues from these exports dropped 3.3 percent from 15.15 million euros in the first four months of last year down to 14.64 million euros in end-April 2013.

On the other hand, Romania imported 34,959.8 tonnes of natural mineral water, artificially carbonated or aerated water, containing added sugar or sugar free, up 11 percent growth compared with the quantity of mineral water imported in the same interval last year, of 31,491.3 tonnes.

The value of imports from markets inside or outside the European Community exceeded 18 million euros January through April 2013, up 17.7 percent compared with the same interval of last year, when total imports were worth 15.29 million euros.

The annual average consumption of natural mineral water in Romania was estimated at 55 litres, three times smaller compared with the value recorded in Italy, Germany or France, despite the high mineral water resources potential that places Romania among the first countries in Europe by its mineral water reserves, according to the Mineral Water Employers Association Apemin.
