Romania hosts Informal Environment Council  at Parliament Palace over May 20-21

Romania will host, over May 20-21, at Parliament Palace, the informal meeting of environment ministers from EU member states, in the context of holding the EU Council Presidency, the Environment Ministry informed on Thursday.

The event will be co-chaired by deputy prime minister and environment minister Gratiela Gavrilescu, together with Ioan Denes, the minister of waters and forests.

According to the source, the Bucharest informal meeting will be attended by environment ministers from EU member states, AELS states and EU candidate states, the European commissioner for climate and energy policies, Miguel Arias Canete, the European commissioner for environment, sea affairs and fishing, Kamenu Vella, representatives of Council General Secretariat, the executive director of the European Environment Agency and the general secretary of the  European Environmental Bureau.

The event agenda includes, on May 20, the debate on climate changes “Innovative solutions and citizens' role in ensuring a future with low carbon emissions: how to better turn to account opportunities concerning life style, circular economy, space planning, etc.” The second work session will approach biodiversity - “IPBES results on Global Evaluation of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services: Implications for global and EU frame for biodiversity after 2020”.

The meeting will continue on May 21 with the third work session on water resource management –  control of water polluted by plastic.
