Romania proposes cultural tours, balneal, Black Sea coast tourism at Tel Aviv tourism fair

The Israeli market is very important to us, therefore reopening a tourism promotion office here is one of the concrete points to be discussed in the following days at the International Mediterranean Tourism Market (IMTM) in a Tel Aviv, Romanian National Tourism Authority (ANT) President Razvan Filipescu declared to Agerpres.

'The Israeli market is very important. It is a market where Romania has unfortunately been absent recently, but we intend to reposition ourselves. Participating at this fair is a first step. We consider reopening the tourism promotion office in Tel Aviv, and we are going to discuss concrete issues on the occasion of our visit to the fair. Definitely, by the end of the first half of 2014, our promotion office in Tel Aviv will be opened. We are attending this fair to promote mainly the cultural tours, the balneal tourism, and also the Black Sea coast,' the ANT head detailed.

Romania will participate at the 20th edition of the International Mediterranean Tourism Market in Tel Aviv, on February 11 and 12.

To date, Romania has tourism promotion offices in New York, Paris, Berlin, London, Rome, Madrid, Moscow, Vienna, and Warsaw.

'We are also going to launch an outdoor and indoor promotion campaign on this market, and we consider organizing several info-trips. It is a good market for us, first of all because those to intend travelling to Romania don't need visas. It is a well-connected market in terms of transportation; there are regular flights between Tel Aviv and Bucharest and TAROM will open a flight from Iasi to Tel Aviv; Israel has a very significant community of Romanian origin, more of 600,000 citizens with Romanian roots. As for tourism, Israelis look for diversity, there is a demand for balneal, cultural and ecumenical tourism. This is what we want to take maximum advantage of. The main thing is that we will host a conference at this fair to bring together tour operators in both countries,' Filipescu said.

Romania will have a 80 square meters national stand in Tel Aviv, hosting 12 tour operators, travel agencies, and hotel industry representatives.

On this occasion, a workshop heading 'Romania - a Tourist Destination for All Ages' will be held on February 11, presenting and analysing possibilities of developing the cooperation between Romania and Israel in the tourism sector. Romania's Ambassador to Israel Andreea Pastarnac will attend the event.

'Romania is not promoted in Israel as a leisure destination, but merely as a destination for those with Romanian roots, but these are not the only to form the main market. Poiana Brasov [resort in central Romania], the Dracula tours, the balneal resorts have been long-time attractions for Israeli tourists. Right now organized tours, especially on Prahova Valley [north of Bucharest] are the best-selling,' the marketing manager of the Israeli tour operator Meshek Wings Tours Meidan Butnaru, who had attended Romania's International Tourism Fair in November 2013, declared to AGERPRES.

Furthermore, Meshek Wings Tours Ltd will organize charter flights from Tel Aviv to Constanta (southeastern Romania, on the Black Sea coast) with the Blue Air airline. Besides the seven-day leisure programme in the Black Sea resort of Mamaia (near Constanta), Meshek will offer promotional tariffs for a maximum promotion of Romania as a destination.

IMTM will host the tourism offer of 39 countries, on an area of 4,400 square meters.
