Romania's exports 17 billion euros January through April

Romania's FOB exports reached up to RON 76,101 billion (16.933 billion euros) January through April this year, while imports climbed up to 83.943 billion (18.682 billion euros), according to provisional estimates of the National Institute of Statistics (INS) released on Tuesday.

Compared to the same time span last year, exports increased by 10.6 percent in 2014 in values denominated in RON (and by 8.1 per cent in values denominated in euros), while imports increased by 10.2 per cent in values denominated in RON (and by 7.7 per cent respectively in values denominated in euros).

Romania's FOB-CIF trade deficit stood at RON 7.842 billion (1.749 billion euros) in the first four months of the year, higher by RON 493.7 million (71.4 million euros) compared to the figure recorded in January 1- April 30, 2013.

According to INS data, the total intra-community exchanges (Intra EU28) accounted for RON 54.003 billion (12.022 billion euros) in the first four months of 2014, in exports, and for RON 63.176 billion (14.067 billion euros) in imports, representing 71 per cent of total exports and 75.3 per cent of total imports.

The value of extra-community exchanges (Extra EU28) in the abovementioned interval was worth RON 22.097 billion (4.910 billion euros) in exports and RON 20.766 billion (4.615 billion euros) in imports, representing 29 per cent of the total exports and 24.7 per cent of the total imports.

Considering their weights in the overall exports and imports the most important groups of products in the abovementioned interval were: tools and transport equipment (43.4 per cent in exports and 35 per cent in imports) and other manufactured products (32.5 per cent in exports and 30 per cent in imports respectively).

In April 2014, according to the provisional estimates of the INS, the FOB exports of Romania totalled RON 18.682 billion (4.176 billion euros), while the CIF imports totalled 21.512 billion lei (4.811 billion euros).

Compared to April 2013, exports went up 4.1 per cent in values denominated in RON (2.2 per cent in values denominated in euros) and imports went up 4.6 per cent in values denominated in RON (2.6 per cent in values denominated in euros). Compared to March 2014, exports in April 2014 dropped 7.2 per cent in values denominated in RON (6.8 per cent in values denominated in euros) and imports dropped 4.8 per cent in values denominated in RON (4.3 per cent in values denominated in euros).

Trade balance deficit (FOB/CIF) was worth RON 2.830 billion in April 2014 (634.6 million euros), by RON 207.8 million (33.6 million euros) higher against April 2013.
