Romanian banknotes forgery checked by BNR growing by 122%: the 100 lei banknote, the highest number of fake notes
The Romanian fake banknotes controlled at BNR in 2014 were 2,631 notes, up by 122% against 2013, according to the annual report of the National Bank of Romania for 2014.
Out of the total number of fake notes, 229 were captured by the police during specific actions, before being used, 2,402 fakes being found in circulation (by 225% more than in 2013).
The note with the highest number of fakes was that of 100 lei with 1,725 notes, (out of which 195 captured by the police). The second was the note of 50 lei with a numberof 673 fakes (out of which 3 notes captured by the police) and the third the note of 200 lei, with a number of 187 fakes, out of which 28 captured by the police.
The number of fakes at a million authentic banknotes in circulation was 2.4 notes against 0.82 notes in 2013.
In 2014, the number of fakes of the banknotes of euro discovered in circulation on the territory of Romania and checked by BNR was 2,607 notes, with 2.6% higher than in 2013.
