Romanian, Chinese experts to start this October a meeting to discuss high-speed train

Romanian and Chinese experts will start this October a series of meetings to achieve a railway for a high-speed train to travel from Bucharest to Iasi and the border between Romania and Moldova, and possibly later on to Moldova's capital city Chisinau. Also discussed was a railway ring around Bucharest City, Romania's Deputy Prime Minister Liviu Dragnea said Thursday at the Government House after meeting visiting China's Executive Vie-Premier Zhang Gaol.

'In the area of infrastructure we discussed today and took a final decision on two large railway infrastructure projects. After initially agreeing on building the railway for a high-speed train from Bucharest to Constanta, after talks with the European Commission - given that the Bucharest-Constanta railway portion was built on European funds - there were some question marks over the timeliness of building a new railway parallel to the exiting one. We agreed that a series of meetings of Romanian and Chinese experts will start in early October to build the railway for a high-speed train to travel from Bucharest to Iasi and the border between Romania and Moldova ,' said Dragnea, who is also Romania's minister of regional development and public administration.

He added that a second project agreed upon in his conversation with the visiting Chinese executive vice-premier regards the construction of a railway ring around Bucharest City.

Dragnea said first estimates not grounded on a thorough technical analysis indicate that each of the two infrastructure projects could be worth in excess of 6 billion euros.

He added that at the meeting with the Chinese officials they agreed on prioritising projects by order of importance and effects on the economy in terms of economic development and jobs creation.
