Romanian companies interested in the technical and technologic domain, pharma and chemical industry in Tunisia

The chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bucharest (CCIB), prof.dr.eng.Sorin Dimitriu had a meeting with his excellency Raja Jhinaoui Ben Ali, the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia to Bucharest, shows the press release sent by the CCIB press office.

The main objective of the meeting aimed at the identification of concrete ways to develop economic and commercial bilateral relations, in the context where, according to the strategy of foreign relations approved by the Leadership college of the Bucharest chamber, the approach of the Northern area of Africa is a priority.

‘The resumption of the relations with CCI from Tunisia, the organization  in Bucharest of the Week of Tunisian products and a Business Forum, events followed by the organization by the Bucharest chamber of an economic mission to Tunisia can constitute efficient steps in the development of economic and commercial bilateral relations’ said prof.dr.eng.Sorin Dimitriu in the meeting.

‘The consolidation of economic cooperation between Romania and Tunisia, collaboration at level of university and science, as well as the encouragement of collaboration at the level fo the chamber are important aims of the Embassy of Tunisia to Romania’ said his excellency Raja Jhinaoui Ben Ali while assuring the chairman of CCIB of his  embassy’s support for the projects of the Bucharest chamber in relation with his country.

As regards the domains for cooperation, according to prof.dr.eng.Sorin Dimitriu’s opinion, the Romanian companies has expertise and the necessary competence to get involved in the modernization, retechnologisation and extension of industrial units in Tunisia. According to his excellence Raja Jhinaoui Ben Ali there are opportunities in the domain of technology, pharma industry, chemical industry as well as in the domain of textiles.

In 2018, the commercial exchanges between the two countries registered, as compared to the previous year, 2017, an increase by 28.2% as regards the total volume, due to the increase of exports to that country, by 118% (183.7 million USD)while the Romanian import registered a contraction (-37.8%) dropping at 71.3 million USD. In 2018, the Republic of Tunisia was the fifth market for Romanian products in Africa, after Morocco, Algeria, South Africa and Libya and the fourth country of origin after Morocco, Sierra Leone and Nigeria for the products coming to Romania from the African continent. The trend of growth of Romanian exports continued in January 2019 ( available data) getting to 18.3 million USD and having an increase by 157.5% against the similar month of 2018.
