Romanian Liberal European deputy Siegfried Muresan elected vicepresident of European Popular Party
European deputy Siegfried Muresan (PNL) was elected vicepresident of the European Popular Party (EPP) on Thursday, at the EPP congress held in Zagreb.
Muresan received the votes of 331 EPP delegates, becoming one of he ten EPP vicepresidents, next to David Mc Allister (CDU, Germany), Helen McEntee (Fine Gael, Ireland), Petteri Orpo (Kokoomus, Finland), Franck Proust (Les Republicains, France), Paulo Rangel (PSD, Portugal), Antonio Tajani (Forza Italy), Esther de Lange (CDA Holland), Mariya Gabriel(GERB, Bulgaria) and Johannes Hahn (OeVP, Austria).
The only candidates for the position of vicepresident rejected by the EEP Political Assembly on September 9-10 were Ivan Stefanec (KDH Slovakia) and Averof Neofytou (Democratic Assembly, Cyprus).
Muresan also holds the position of EEP vicepresident in the European Parliament and was one of the two candidates suggested by PNL for the position of European commissioner. The candidate elected by Ursula von der Leyen was Adina Valean.
