Romanian, Moldovan Agriculture Ministers sign 2014 - 2015 joint plan of action
period 2014-2015, Minister of Agriculture Daniel Constantin announced on Thursday at a wine tasting event on the sidelines of the 29th FAO Regional Conference taking place in Bucharest.
'Romania does everything possible to be at the side of the Republic of Moldova in its project to promote its homegrown wines. I want to congratulate [Moldovan Agriculture] Minister Bumacov and thank Mr. Commissioner Dacian Ciolos (Commissioner for agriculture and rural development - Ed. note) for their joint efforts to promote Moldovan wines and facilitate the access of Moldovan wines to the European Union market. As a matter of fact, me and Minister Bumacov will sign this Thursday a plan of action which, I believe, will strengthen cooperation between our countries. The plan of action covers the period 2014-2015 and envisages several areas of activity, including viticulture, but mainly everything related to phytosanitary cooperation and other areas of relevance for the agriculture of the two countries,' said Daniel Constantin.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, Romania ranks 10th worldwide and 5th in the EU by the production of grapes and wine.
Daniel Constantin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, attended on Thursday together with Republic of Moldova's Minister of Agriculture Vasile Bumacov a wine tasting event organized on the occasion of the 29th FAO European Regional Conference taking place at the Bucharest Palace of Parliament. European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Ciolos and MADR Secretaries of State George Turtoi and Peter Tamas Nagy were also in attendance.
In keeping with their competencies and under observance of the domestic law and international treaties they signed, the parties will support cooperation in the following activities: plant growing and plant protection, agriculture and rural development, science and professional training, winemaking, animal husbandry, ecological farming.
