SIM 2012 : Romania's furniture exports by 17.5 pct higher, in 2011


Romania's furniture exports grossed 1.38 billion euros in 2011, by 17.5 percent higher compared to the year before., whereas the imports totalled 358 million euros, in the same year, by 10 percent more than in 2010, Association of Romanian Forest Owners (ASFOR) president Nicolae Tucunel told a specialty conference organized at the International Furniture, Equipment and Accessories Fair (SIM 2012), on Wednesday.

'No matter how many interests we have, the respect for the forests must remain unaltered. The forest fund has to go on serving the coming generations, after all. According to the official data, Romania's furniture exports amounted to 1.380 billion euros, in 2011, namely 17.5 percent more than in 2010, when the exports were worth 1.174 billion euros. As for the imports, they amounted to 358 million euros in 2011, with ten percent more than that of the previous year,' Tucunel said, adding that the timber mass exploited last year was with ten percent more than in 2010, attaining 17.705 million cu.m.

'The timber mass exploited in 2011 grew by 10 percent in 2011 vs.2010, namely by 17.705 million cu.m. Log and timber exports increased up to 1.450 billion euros, in 2011, namely 18.4 percent more than in 2010 when they scored 1.224 billion euros,' ASFOR official stressed.

.SIM 2012 edition opened at Romaero Baneasa (northern Bucharest), on Wednesday, where seven countries, along with Romania display their products. Attending the event are furniture makers from UK, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Poland, Bulgaria, Republicof Moldova and Romania.
The Fair is open over Sept 19-23.
