The 9th edition of 'Les Films de Cannes a Bucarest' festival between 19-28 October
Award winning-movies, Romanian previews, unique screening can be seen between 19-28 October at the 9th edition of the 'Les Films de Cannes a Bucarest' festival, where meetings with filmmakers are also scheduled to take place, as well as master-classes, retrospectives and professional events.
Director Cristian Mungiu, the initiator of the festival, told a press conference that this year's edition will include, for the first time, two competitive sections, whose winners will be decided by the audience.
"A novelty at the 'Les Films de Cannes a Bucarest' is that, for the first time, will will have some sort of awards, some sort of the audience's vote for two categories of movies, and we'll have some kind of bonuses, some sort of bonus for the distribution. We have grouped the films of the festival in several sections and there are two sections where we have identified that Romania's distributors could need more support and we will make efforts to establish the winners with the help of the audience. (...) One of this sections refers to foreign movies which we bring to the festival and don't have a distributor in Romania. (...) The other competitive section to which the audience is invited to vote regards the Romanian films, the Romanian autumn previews. There are eight [movies] that we will premiere or be previewed and we will also ask for the audience's support in deciding which is their most favorite film," Cristian Mungiu stated, mentioning that the awards worth 5,000 euro will be offered to the film distributors of Romania "that won the sympathy of the audience."
This year, 'Les Films de Cannes a Bucarest' is organizing local editions in seven cities, namely in Timisoara, Arad, Cluj, Iasi, Brasov, Oradea and Suceava.
