The fifth Trilateral Meeting Poland-Romania-Turkey on security topics hosted by MAE
Secretary of State for Strategic Affairs Bogdan Aurescu hosted at the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) headquarters on Wednesday the fifth Trilateral Meeting Poland-Romania-Turkey on security topics, informs a MAE release.
According to the cited source, the Polish delegation was headed by Leszek Soczewica, Under Secretary of State with the Foreign Ministry, and the Turkish delegation, by Ahmet Muhtar Gun, Deputy Under Secretary of State for bilateral political affairs with the Foreign Ministry.
'The agenda of the trilateral meeting of Bucharest focused on implementing the decisions adopted in the NATO Summit held in the UK, mainly on consolidating NATO's collective defence and implementing the Alliance's Action Plan for increasing the reaction level. Other topics concerning the NATO-EU relations, the situation in Ukraine and the developments in the eastern vicinity, with a focus on the security in the Black Sea region, the situation of the extended conflicts in the region, as well as the situation in Syria and Iraq were also approached,' the MAE release informs.
At the same time, the three officials voiced common concerns in regard with the challenges to the security of NATO, the Romanian side having highlighted the importance to Romania of consolidating the eastern flank of the Alliance, according to the decisions made in the NATO Summit.
Bogdan Aurescu underscored 'the need to continue to reassure the eastern allies, an important element for the strategic stability of the region and for the discouragement of the instability factors,' and voiced the importance of granting substantial support to the eastern partners - Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia.
'In the area of the defence against ballistic missiles, Bogdan Aurescu presented the progress made in the preparation of the deployment in Romania of the US anti-missile system, highlighting he completion before the time limit of the negotiations on the legal framework for implementing the Agreement between Romania and the United States of America concerning the deployment in Romania of the US anti-ballistic missile system, but also the preparations for making the Deveselu base operational in 2015,' the MAE release shows.
The heads of the three delegations voiced common positions and concerns in regards with the security challenges on NATO's eastern flank, as well as in regards with the developments of Syria and Iraq.
At the same time, the three officials highlighted 'the importance of continuing the trilateral collaboration in the parliamentarian format, following the meeting of the heads of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the national Parliaments of the three countries, carried out in Bucharest, on May 7, 2014, when a trilateral parliamentary declaration was adopted, as well as of developing an academic component of this format.'
The trilateral consultations within the Foreign Affairs Ministries in the Poland-Romania-Turkey format were initiated by Romania, in 2012, starting from the convergence of the national approaches on a substantial number of topics and taking into account the Strategic Partnerships Romania signed with the other two states.
