The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Nikola Selakovic, welcomed by President Klaus Iohannis

President Klaus Iohannis welcomed on Monday the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Nikola Selakovic, on the occasion of the latter's visit to Bucharest.

According to the Presidential Administration, the head of state stressed the importance of stimulating bilateral dialogue, including through an intensification of sectoral cooperation in various areas of common interest, such as mutual trade, infrastructure, energy, education and culture. In this context, President Klaus Iohannis appreciated the recent signing of the agreement between the two Governments on establishing the connection of the Timisoara - Moravita motorway and the Belgrade - Vatin highway.

Also, the head of state welcomed the signing on Monday, by the heads of diplomacy of the two countries, of the agreements between the two Governments regarding the granting of the property right over the "Luceafarul" building to Romania, respectively regarding the cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture, youth and sports.

"In terms of European integration, including in the context of the recent EU-Western Balkans Summit held in Brussels on June 23, 2022, President Klaus Iohannis reiterated Romania's support for the European integration process, the importance of aligning with the decisions of the Union and has expressed openness to provide technical expertise to the Serbian authorities," the Presidential Administration said.

Regarding the current European security context, marked by the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the talks between the two officials also highlighted the common interest in ensuring regional stability and advancing the Western Balkan states in the process of joining the European Union.
