The movie „Las Hijas de Abril” to open the 14th edition of the ANONIMUL International Independent Film Festival

The movie of Mexican director Michel Franco titled "April's Daughter" (Las Hijas de Abril), that received the "Un Certain Regard" jury prize at Cannes 2017, is to open the 14th edition of the ANONIMUL International Independent Film Festival, a release of the organisers sent on Tuesday informs. 

Within the opening gala, on 7 August, the Mexican director, a special guest of the festival, is to receive the Anonimul Trophy "for his contribution to the beauty of universal cinematography," according to organisers. 

In the festival's feature film competition six titles are selected by curator Ludmila Cvikova - Israel-Germany-France coproduction "The Burglar", directed by Hagar Ben-Asher; Netherlands-Norway coproduction "Quality Time" directed by Daan Bakker; "Marita", directed by Cristian Iftime; "Los Nadie" / "The Nobodies" (Columbia) directed by Sebastian Mesa; France-Sri Lanka-Qatar-The Netherlands coproduction "Burning Birds", directed by Sanjeewa Pushpakumara; and "Sexy Durga" (India) directed by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan. 

The films are competing for the Anonimul Trophy, granted exclusively based on the votes cast by the audience in Sfantu Gheorghe, the Danube Delta. 

In the short film competition Anonimul-14, the audience will watch 14 Romanian short films, 14 international short films, respectively, that were selected by film critic Ionut Mares. 

The movies were selected from a number of over 450 short films submitted by 50 countries, 70 Romanian short films respectively. 

The 14th edition of the ANONIMUL International Independent Film Festival will run between 7th and 13th August in Sfantu Gheorghe, in the Danube Delta, being organised by the Anonimul Foundation and the FAMart Association. The cultural project is co-funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Identity, the National Center of Cinematography, the Administration of National Cultural Fund, the Union of Romanian Cinematographers and the Tulcea County Council.
