Ukrainian official: Around 500 megawatts of different distributed generation projects are being implemented
So far we have about 500 megawatts of distributed generation projects under implementation, but many more are to come and here we are exploring different financing, purchase and donation options, Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Energy Roman Andarak told the ministerial meeting organised within the framework of the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy and Climate Cooperation (P-TECC) meeting on Wednesday.
Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Energy Roman Andarak said Ukraine focused on several directions, explaining that the first concerned physical protection and air defence. The second direction mentioned is infrastructure repair, which according to calculations, an investment of 180 million would reintroduce more than 3 GW of production into the system.
Andarak also pointed out that they are also trying to make the system more flexible, more resilient, through distributed generation. So far, around 500 megawatts of different distributed generation projects are being implemented.
He underlined that an important area of the ministry's work is to ensure reserve generation for the most critical facilities.
Ukraine has received from international partners 16,000 generators for all the country's needs, but the basic needs for next winter are much lower, only 10% of that number.
The Ukrainian official mentioned that his country's government has implemented policies not to disconnect companies that purchase 80% of their electricity from abroad.
Last but not least, Roman Andarak pointed out that, despite the war, projects are being developed in various fields, including photovoltaic energy and wind farms.
The deputy minister explained that due to the massive missile attacks, over 9 GW of generating capacity has been destroyed in Ukraine, which is why there is a significant deficit in the system, amounting to 30% of the necessary energy consumption.
