Unemployment rate was 4.91 percent at end-August
The unemployment rate recorded nationwide at end-August was 4.91 percent, down by 0.08 percentage points from the prior month and by 0.22 percent lower year-on-year, the National Employment Agency announced on Wednesday.
The highest joblessness rates were recorded in the counties of Teleorman (11.05pct), Vaslui (10.53pct), Buzau (9.71pct), Mehedinti (9.69pct), Galati (9.58pct) and Dolj (8.85pct), while at the opposite end there was Ilfov county with 1.37 percent.
The unemployment rate dropped in 24 counties and Bucharest city, with the steepest falls being recorded in Gorj (0.88 pp), Valcea (0.72 pp), Alba (0.48 pp), the Agency said.
There were 444,356 out-of-work Romanians in the Agency records in this August, marking a drop by 6,812 people from July.
The jobless with no unemployment benefits account for the bulk of the unemployed at 77.65 percent or 345,053 persons. As many as 99,303 persons were getting unemployment benefits in July.
Men's unemployment rate was down by 0.10 percentage points from July to 5.23 percent, while women's unemployment rate dropped by 0.04 percentage points to 4.56 percent.
As for the age brackets, most out-of-work Romanians kept being aged between 40 to 49, namely 117,712 persons; ranking next are the 30 to 39 year-olds (88,882 persons) and those aged below 25 (81,362 persons); the lowest number of jobless is among the persons aged between 25 and 29 (32,879 persons).
Uneducated jobless, as well as those with primary, secondary and vocational education hold the largest share of the total jobless recorded at the Agency (74.20pct). High-school and post-high school graduates account for 20.64 percent of the recorded jobless, while the higher education graduates hold 5.17 percent share.
